2026 Class, Workshop, & Programming Proposal

The Heart of It Writing Retreat & Residencies is officially launching online programming in 2026 🎉 !

How it Works:

  • You (teaching artist, facilitator, organizer, etc) propose virtual programming (workshop, book club, craft talk, dialogue, series, panel, etc.) -- anything 60-120 minutes that you can facilitate online!

  • If selected, your compensation will be $50-$250* per session based on enrollment. The base rate is $50 -- but the more people come to your session the more we are able to pay you!

  • Your session does not have to be a generative poetry writing workshop. In fact, we prefer it isn't! We would love a craft talk, close reading, essay writing workshop, facilitation-skill conversation, publication 101, panel discussion, skillsharing session, research discussion, etc. We are absolutely not opposed to poetry-centered writing workshops, but we would love to see what else you have up your sleeve! The main thing to keep in mind: students should leave feeling like your session helped them with their writing goals!

*All profit goes to The Heart of It Writing Retreat 2026 to fund scholarships and fellowships for all incoming writers. We need to make $80,000 to fully fund all of our writers in 2026 -- and by leading online programming, you directly contribute to making that happen. Our 2026 funding comes from donors, grants, and programming like this!

THOI staff will support with promotion, tech, student communication, and we will provide a TA to support your workshop in whatever way you need.

As we are a young and growing org, we ask that you advertise and provide at least one piece of content for our promo materials. More on this if your proposal is selected!

If you submit your proposal by October 15, it will be considered for our January 2026 programming launch.

This model supports both branches of THOI's mission:

  • Paying teaching artists and writers

  • Offering high-quality, low and no cost educational and creative space for writers, readers, and organizers.
