The Residency
August 12-17, 2025
The Residency welcomes artists and writers across all mediums and genres for a 6-day, 5-night semi-facilitated stay at Oz Farm in Point Arena, California.
Residents are housed in one of Oz’s handbuilt cabins tucked in the forest or pastoral landscape across the 240-acre private organic food and flower farm. Accommodations include a double or queen bed in a cabin with 1-2 other writers, 24/7 access to the communal kitchen, barn, and all outdoor spaces at Oz.
The Residency provides writers the time, space, and solitude to focus on their creative practice in an inclusive, intentional community of writers and artists at all career and experience levels. Writers can explore the redwood grove, Garcia River, the northern California coast, and the charm and inspiration of the working organic food and flower farm while expanding their community of friends, collaborators, and mentors. Residents are encouraged to unplug, immerse themselves in their practice, and show up in whatever way feels best.
During The Residency, faculty and peers will offer craft talks, generative workshops, one-on-one sessions, place-based learning and creative activities, and optional group outings to the beach, downtown Point Arena, and the historic lighthouse. We will also commune each evening for a collaborative dinner and resident showcase, during which each resident will have the opportunity to share what they’re working on.
Things to note about Oz Farm: The cabins & yurts are hand-built and off-grid. They have limited USB outlets and overhead lighting. The community house, barn, and communal area have outlets and wifi, which you have 24-hour access to. While there is indoor plumbing and flush toilets in the communal area, each cabin/yurt has an outhouse. Cabins/yurts are heated by wood-burning stoves. You will encounter wildlife at Oz (bunnies, deer, etc), and you must walk at least ¼ mile, depending on your lodging.
Please be sure to read through Oz’s website thoroughly and reach out with any questions.
Evening meals and grocery staples* are included in tuition.
*you will be able to feed yourself and cook all needed meals with the grocery staples, but you may want to grab specifics for yourself at the grocery store a few miles down the road.
