Before you submit your application, you are required to read the overview and the FAQ pages in their entirety. If you still have questions, please submit them here.
The Heart of It: The Project Portal at The Domes is an emergent offering born from the growing needs of The Heart of It community. During The Heart of It’s 3-week visit to Oz Farm, The Domes are reserved for collaborative space among alumni. The Domes sleep 5, and they are located at the far end of the Oz Farm property on the banks of the Garcia River. The Project Portal is for alumni that want self-guided collaborative space to dig into a project. It is a malleable offering and meant for anything you can dream up - to work on a manuscript, curriculum, project, practice, or simply be among other creatives to rest, recharge, and reimagine. You can apply to solo or with up to 4 total co-applicants.
New in 2024, The Project Portal with have an alumni-in-residence (The Fellowship program), and they will help support logistics and program needs that emerge from your cohort.
Each Project Portal fellow will have their own bed and share the communal space of The Domes, pictured here. Fellows are responsible for their own transportation to and from the farm, and they are responsible for their own meals.
There is a communal kitchen, and cohorts are encouraged to stock the kitchen collaboratively. Project Portal stays are 5 days. Specific dates will be allotted upon acceptance. The ethos of The Project Portal is collaborative, emergent, regenerative, and communal - but it is not formally facilitated. During your stay, there will be options for meals, collaborations, and conversations with other alumni and staff, the opportunity to lead a workshop with the first year cohort or your Project Portal cohort on site, and emergent collaboration with THOI Residents and of course, other Project Portal fellows. At any given time, there will be 2-5 other fellows in The Domes. You can apply to stay in the domes with up to 4 other applicants or you can apply solo. Each cohort will be gently crafted by THOI staff with needs, projects, and dates in mind.
The Heart of It: Project Portals at The Domes is open to all alumni of The Heart of It. You may apply collaboratively or solo.
Dates are to be determined based on applicant volume and scheduling among all programs. Dates will be given to you upon acceptance, and will fall between August 1-20, 2024. In the application you will have the option to tell us any date conflicts you may have.
Tuition: $1,000
As an emergent element for 2024, upon acceptance The Heart of It team will support you in finding and applying to funding from local arts organizations, your school, your workplace, and any other financial resources that may be available.
If you receive a Fellowship position, your full tuition for The Project Portal will be covered, plus a travel and grocery stipend.
